Man Shot By Drunken Policeman Loses Eye

When Nonso Ozoemena, a 28-year-old man, arrived in Lagos, his plan was to set up a business so that he would be able to support his widowed mother and his seven siblings in Anambra State.

Soon after, he was able to open a restaurant in Trade Fair Complex, FESTAC, and it seemed his dream was coming true.

His expectation was however eroded after a drunken police corporal, Mohammed Abubakar, shot him in the eye.

Ozoemena said he was shot in the eye in the FESTAC area on August 5, 2013.

Narrating what transpired on the fateful day, he said, “I had just returned from work and I was about entering my house at Amuwo Odofin when I heard the policeman arguing with someone in the next house. The policeman then called his colleagues for help.

“When his colleagues arrived, they persuaded him to leave the place because he was drunk. After much pleading, the policeman left. A few minutes later, the policeman returned with a gun and started shooting sporadically.

“One of the bullets hit me in the right eye. A barber, Bright John, was killed.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that during the shooting, a pregnant woman was hit while another man, Tayo Ajasa, was also shot in the thigh.

It was learnt that the policeman, who is attached to a security company in the area, fled the scene after realising the havoc he had wreaked.

Ozoemena and the other victims were later taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

It was learnt that while other victims were treated and discharged, Ozoemena, was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital, where the eye was operated.

The company was also said to have contributed N146, 000 to pay the medical bill.

The victim, who had been discharged, told PUNCH Metro that he had not been able to go to work since the incident occurred.

He said he had been in constant pains and had found it difficult to sleep.

Our correspondent observed that pus was coming from Ozoemena eye. But the victim said the pus was the least of his problems.

He said, “I am in so much pain. The unfortunate thing is that I have not been able to tell my mother about the incident because I don’t want her to worry.

“I don’t have perfect vision anymore. In fact, a few days ago, I was knocked down by a vehicle coming from the right side while I was attempting to cross the road.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Umar Manko, had declared the policeman wanted.

Manko said the wanted policeman was attached to Police Mobile Force 17, Akure, Ondo State, and wondered what he was doing in Lagos.

However, Ozoemena’s lawyer, Mr. George Nwahajioke, said the police must compensate his client. The lawyer said declaring the policeman wanted was not enough, adding that the victim’s expectations had been eroded by the loss of his eye.

Nwahajioke, who lamented the increase in police brutality, said, “Nigerians are living in fear of arrogant culture of impunity within the Nigeria Police. Nonso Ozoemena is just one of the few lucky Nigerians to survive as our police, who are supposed to protect us, now turn the barrel of their guns at us.

“We are demanding N100m as compensation from the police and the company jointly and severally to help our client get the urgent medical attention he needs.”

All efforts to contact the company proved abortive as an email sent to it was not replied, while a text message sent to it was not responded to.

Shocking Facts About World's Most Powerful Man "Barack Obama"

Who is the most powerful man in the world?

I am sure there are no two thoughts while answering this question, its none other than Mr Barack Obama, the President of United States of America!
Barack Obama once said "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

People write how good he is when it comes to leadership skills!
People write how good he is when it comes to bringing change into political system!
People write how good he is as human being!
People write about his trade policies and its effectiveness!

But do people write about the shocking facts about Barack Obama?
I guess the answer is no or maybe there are few who tried to bring out the true facts. Let’s look into such shocking and unheard facts about Mr President.

1.Marijuana smoker?

Obama was a member of the "choom gang", a group of friends that spent time together and used to dope all the time, mainly marijuana and cocaine. In the year 2008 even Mr president said in a speech that he regret the use of drugs in the early stage of his life.

2.No access to records which may reveal his past?

When Obama was the Leading candidate for the post of president the wide range of researchers attempted to fill in the mystical blanks, but at every opportunity Obama’s high-priced lawyers manipulated various records or say simply made them disappear. It is estimated that Obama’s legal team has now spent well over $1.4 million dollars blocking access to documents every American should have access to. The question is why would he spend so much money to do this?
The president who campaigned for a more “transparent government” and “full disclosure” will not unseal his medical records, his school records, his certificate records or his passport records. He will not release his Harvard records, his Columbia College records, or his Occidental College records. All of his legislative records from the Illinois State Senate are missing. It doesn't end here, no one can even find his school records for the elite K-12 college prep school, Punahou School, he attended in Hawaii when he was a kid.

3.Funding from terrorist group?
More than 49 law suits have been filed on the "birth certificate" issue alone, with several of the suits making it all the way the United States Supreme Court, only to be denied a full hearing. Strange!

Obama will not release any student loan details despite repeated requests from the Chicago Tribune. There were speculations that his Harvard education may have been paid for by a foreign source. Khalid Al-Mansour, an adviser to Saudi prince Al-Walid bin Talah, told Manhattan Borough president, Percy Sutton, that he was raising money for Obama’s Harvard tuition. Incidentally, Prince Tala is the largest donor to CAIR, a Muslim group declared by the U.S. Government in 2007 as an indicted co-conspirator in a terrorist financing trial. At least three of CAIR’s leaders have been indicted for terrorist activities.

4.The game of social security numbers!
Sankey tracked down 16 different addresses for a Barack Obama or Barack H. Obama, of which all are addresses he was known to have lived at, not just that he used Two Social Security numbers for these addresses, one beginning with 042 and one starting 364.

Obama attended Occidental College, there are six addresses listed for the same. However, there are three Social Security numbers connected to these addresses, 537 and two others, each beginning with 999.

5.Obama's mother in Porn Industry?
Researchers have discovered 99 separate addresses for Ann Dunham (Obama's mother) and many social security numbers with the same name. We do know she worked for the ultra-liberal Ford Foundation but the rumors also suggested that she may have earned some income from pornographic poses, as evidenced by photos recently discovered by some researchers... Unbelievable! The only thing researchers were able to find out about Obama’s mother is the fact she made porn. I’m sure that’s a first for presidential mothers.

6.Obama a chain smoker?
Mr President was a big time chain smoker which eventually turned in to the use of marijuana and cocaine. Though, Mr President is now as clean as a glass according leading tabloids.

No matter HOW much we try to unfold mysteries of his past, the truth is, he is still one of the best role model of today's time because of his leadership qualities.

9 Cute And Deadly Animals – Looks Can Be Deceiving

Looks can be very deceiving, and apparently this does not apply only to people: some animals can look cute and adorable and you may feel like cuddling them, without knowing that this might be the last thing you do. Here is a closer look at the top 9 cute and deadly animals that will make you want to think twice before you pet them:

1. The Slow Loris
The Slow Loris is definitely an adorable creature: its big eyes and its fluffy body make it one of the cutest mammals on Earth. However, few people know that the Slow Loris is also one of the most poisonous, given the fact that it produces a toxin inside its elbows. If they feel threatened or annoyed, they can easily spray that venom in your eyes and cause permanent blindness. If you have thought about getting a Slow Loris as a pet, you might want to reconsider your decision!

2. The Duckbill Platypus
The platypus is known for its strange yet adorable appearance: these mammals are truly unique as they seem to combine physical traits and features from several different animals like ducks, otters and beavers. Just like the Slow Loris, the duckbill platypus also produces a deadly venom located in its hollow spurs. Although this venom is designed to protect the mammal from predators, it can hurt humans as well.

3. Polar Bears
Polar bears are gentle and fuzzy at first sight, but this is actually one of the largest carnivores and it will do everything it takes to survive. Polar bears attack and kill tens of people every year, so you might want to watch your back if you will ever find yourself anywhere near one in the future!

4. The Poison Dart Frog
Generally speaking, frogs are anything but cute. However, this does not apply to the Poison Dart Frog: its beautiful, lively colors and cute appearance certainly make you want to squeeze it and play with it all day long, blissfully unaware of the fact that it is called “the POISON Dart Frog” for a reason. This frog is one of the most poisonous of its kind, as it produces toxic secretions that were commonly used in the past by the American Indians to poison the tip of their darts.

5. The Blue-Ringed Octopus
There are hundreds of different octopus species out there, but none of them is as dangerous as the blue-ringed octopus, in spite of its very tiny appearance. This octopus will not hesitate to bite you and inject a strong venom that can kill you within minutes, if you do not get the anti-venom right away. However, if you do not step on it or provoke it in any way, it seldom attacks for no apparent reason.

6. The Cassowary
This is a rare bird that in spite of its flamboyant turkey-like appearance, can be easily compared to a Velociraptor undercover. What makes the cassowary so dangerous is its extremely sharp claws who can easily cut through human skin, causing extensive wounds and even death. If you are not careful enough or you provoke the cassowary in any way, it can easily disembowel you within seconds.

7. The Stingray
Stingrays are beautiful, and if you have ever been to an aquarium you have certainly seen one by now. However, these seemingly docile creatures can turn out to be deadly: as a matter of fact, the well known Steve Irwin (better known as the Crocodile Hunter) died of a stingray wound to the chest. Their barbed stinger coupled with a powerful venom are the aspects that make stingrays so feared: the toxin is situated at the tip of the stinger, and although the toxin itself is not necessarily fatal, it can turn out deadly if the stinger punctures your vital organs such as your heart.

8. The Pufferfish
Pufferfish are so cute because of their appearance when they are fully expanded: their chubby appearance is what makes them so adorable. However, these fish are considered some of the most poisonous vertebrate on Earth, this is why fishermen often use extremely thick gloves when handling them. If the venom of the Pufferfish gets to you and you do not get treatment right away, it can paralyze your diaphragm and lead to suffocation within minutes.

9. Hippos

Hippos are adorable, especially when they are small: those cute round eyes and those cute little ears have turned them into popular cartoon and movie characters, over the decades. However, hippos have turned out to be deadly more than once, as these animals are very territorial if somebody gets to cross their mud pond. Hippos are very fast in spite of their huge weight – never underestimate a hippo, especially its jaw and canine teeth that can grow up to 10 inches in length. Although they are herbivores and they do not kill for prey like other animals (such as                                                                 crocodiles), they can kill you in an instant.

'Jungle Men' Found Still Hiding From Vietnam War Since 1971

A father and son are found in the jungle after more than four decades hiding from the horrors of the Vietnam War.

Ho Van Lang being led away
A father and son have been found living in the jungle more than 40 years after they fled US bombing during the Vietnam War.

Ho Van Thanh left his home village with his baby son Ho Van Lang in 1971 after a mine blast killed his wife and two of his children.

The pair apparently survived by foraging for fruit, lived in a timber treehouse and wore loin cloths made from tree bark.

The authorities were alerted after locals searching for firewood spotted the men deep in the forest in Quang Ngai province's Tay Tra district.

A team was set up to look for the pair - now aged 82 and 41 - and found them after a five hour search.

82-year-old Ho Van Thanh was too weak to walk.
When found, Ho Van Thanh was too weak to walk and had to be taken out of the jungle on a stretcher.

The father could speak a little of the region's Cor language but the son only knew a few words.

The pair have been checked by doctors and a decision must now be made on how to reintegrate them to society.

Ho Van Thanh is believed to have lived a normal life in the hamlet of Tra Kem, but fled into the jungle after the explosion that decimated his family.
The two men were checked out by doctors.

Father and son discovered living alone in jungle for 40 years. The men are thought to have grown their own food and even cultivated tobacco during their time in the wilderness.

Another son, Ho Van Tri, told Vietnamese newspaper VnExpress that he found them hiding out around two decades ago but could not convince them to return home with him.

The Vietnam War was a Cold War-era conflict that claimed millions of military and civilian lives and left surviving soldiers and victims traumatised.

The US dropped millions of tonnes of bombs on Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia during the war, which ended in 1975 with the fall of Saigon to North Vietnamese forces.

Paranormal After-Death Experiences 'Explained'

Near-death experiences sometimes involve travelling towards intense light
Scientists find that brains are pushed into a higher state of arousal at the brink of death - which may trigger strange visions.

A mysterious surge of brain activity observed in dying rats may explain reports of near-death-experiences (NDEs), researchers claim. Even after the animals' hearts stopped beating and no blood was reaching their brains, they appeared to show signs of conscious perception.

The study is the first to take a systematic look at the neurophysiological state of the dying brain after a cardiac arrest. It suggests something happens at the brink of death that pushes the conscious brain to a high level of arousal. This may trigger the visions and sensations associated with NDEs, scientists believe.

As many as a fifth of people who survive cardiac arrests report having had an other-worldly experience while being "clinically" dead. Typically NDEs involve travelling through a tunnel towards an intense light or being separated from the body. Others encounter long-departed loved ones or angels and undergo some kind of judgment of "life review". Some emerge from NDEs as transformed individuals with a completely altered outlook on life, or a new belief in religion.

But many scientists believe near-death-experiences are nothing more than hallucinations induced by the effect of the brain shutting down. The new research involved recording the electrical nerve impulses of anaesthetised rats whose hearts were artificially stopped.

Researchers looked at brain activity in rats whose hearts had been stopped
Within 30 seconds after suffering a cardiac arrest, all the animals displayed a short-lived surge of widespread, highly synchronised brain activity.

"We were surprised by the high levels of activity," said Dr George Mashour, one of the US researchers from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. "In fact, at near-death many known electrical signatures of consciousness exceeded levels found in the waking state, suggesting that the brain is capable of well-organised electrical activity during the early stage of clinical death."

The findings are reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Previously it was assumed that brain activity ceases when the heart stops. "This study tells us that reduction of oxygen or both oxygen and glucose during cardiac arrest can stimulate brain activity that is characteristic of conscious processing," said lead scientist Dr Jimo Borjigin, also from the University of Michigan. "It also provides the first scientific framework for the near-death experiences reported by many cardiac arrest survivors."

British expert Dr Martin Coath, from the Cognition Institute at University of Plymouth, said: "This new research is genuinely interesting. "But the conclusion that these are 'neural correlates of heightened conscious processing' isn't strongly supported, unless you take it to mean 'more of some types of activity that are associated with being awake' which is a bit of a stretch. "As the induced cardiac arrest happens while the rat's brain is anaesthetised, the results show the response of an unconscious brain to critical lack of blood flow and oxygen. "It is certainly interesting that this causes some types of activity in the brain to increase in a predictable and coordinated way well after the heart has stopped, but hardly surprising."

Dr David McGonigle, from University of Cardiff, said: "Do we know if animals experience 'consciousness'? Most philosophers and scientists are still at loggerheads over what the term refers to in humans, let alone in other species. "While recent research now suggests that animals may indeed have the kind of autobiographical memories that humans possess, the kinds of memories that allow us to place ourselves in a certain time and place, it seems unlikely that near-death-experiences would necessarily be similar across species."

How Sleeping Drug Overdose Killed Tope Alabi’s Ex-Spiritual Father Prophet Ajanaku

Prophet Ajanaku Died In His Sleep Of Drug Overdose: How Church Members Engaged In Prayer For His Resurrection

Details surrounding the sudden death of Prophet Elijah Ola Ajanaku, the former spiritual father and pastor of Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi has been released.

The founder and pastor in charge of the Christ Revival Church International located in Baruwa in Ayobo-Ipaja, Lagos, died in his sleep on Saturday August 17, 2013.

We learnt the controversial prophet died in his sleep on Saturday after a nurse administered sedatives to calm down his nerves after his situation got worse.

He reportedly didn't wake up from his sleep.

His dead body was brought into his house in Lagos from his hometown (Gbogan) on Sunday evening.
According to sources, the elegant preacher reportedly fell ill about 8 weeks ago and after all medical methods to get him well proved abortive, he was taken to his home town for traditional treatment.

Throughout his downtime, his church members were told he’d travelled abroad to rest not knowing he had been taken to his hometown.
This was the reason for his absence at the church’s anniversary on the 18th of July, 2013.
During the church service yesterday, most of his church members didn't believe he has died with many calling his death a hoax.
Most of them argued that he could not have died, insisting that he travelled abroad to rest due to his hectic schedules.

According to reliable sources, some of his church members were hostile to news men who visited the church to confirm this report..
Late Prophet Ajanaku’s corpse was taken to a local mortuary around 11 a.m this morning.
A member of the congregation was seen directing another member to arrange for security personnel to accompany the corpse to the mortuary.
Church members who trooped to the home of the man they called ‘Daddy’, were directed to report at the church at Baruwa while the top leaders of the church were planning to take the corpse to the mortuary.

Late Prophet Ajanaku became popular after his association with gospel singer Tope Alabi.
The two split over sex allegations few weeks before his death.
Tope Alabi who is currently in Toronto, Ontario Canada was one of the earliest callers at the residence of the deceased on Sunday.

In another development, a neighbour to late Prophet Ajanaku said his followers believe he’ll come back to life.
As a result, several prayer sessions have been held since he died.
“He died since Saturday, but the church members have decided to keep sealed lips.Instead, they have engaged in marathon prayer sessions. They held a vigil on Saturday where they prayed fervently for him to resurrect, but nothing happened.
“The church members were shouting: ‘Prophet Ajanaku, wake up’ throughout Saturday night,” Mrs. Rita Ade said.

Unknown to the public, Late Prophet Ajanaku was arrested and detained few months ago by security officials after an embarrassing public fight with Tope Alabi.
Weeks after his arrest, he reportedly fell ill and the rest is history.
Tope Alabi’s husband responded to the allegation thus: “this trouble started when we stopped attending Prophet Ajanaku’s church because he was beginning to see himself as a god in our lives.
“All he has said to the media are bunch of lies, just to look for a way to bring us down. I know there is a God in heaven who will judge everything we do on earth and reward all of us accordingly.
“I intentionally told my wife not to say anything and leave God to judge everything but I am using this medium to tell everyone out there that Tope Alabi never asked Prophet Ajanaku to sleep with her.”

Late Prophet Ajanaku was a Muslim man with a solid Islamic background. He converted to Christianity on arriving Lagos few years back.
According to his profile, the late preacher tagged Bad boy for Satan was denied access to basic education. He didn't attend primary, secondary or university.
“Illiteracy was a big title for him because of his chronic state. He understood and could communicate in Yoruba language only.” He later attended the Winners Church Bible school

He is survived by a wife, aged mother and children (a boy and a girl).

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

How we stole N700m at Ikeja Airport – K Money

In February 2012, a gang of heavily armed robbers attacked the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.

They carted away N700 million from a bureau de change operator. Each member, including the informant, a cart pusher at the airport, got N90million, an amount that could have turned their lives around. But barely one year after that operation, Felix Sunday, a.k.a. K-Money, a native of Delta State became broke and went back to robbery.

The 32 year old man, who is currently cooling off at the Specail Anti-Robbery Sqaud, SARS, Ikeja, narrated to Vanguard how he robbed with the notorious Southwest robbery czar, Abiodun Ogunjobi, a.k.a. Godogodo and how he lavished his N90million share of the loot. Excerpts.

My name is Felix Sunday. I am a resident of Lagos State and I was a commercial bus driver. I joined my first robbery gang in 2009 and was the gang’s driver. Members of my gang then were old men and all of them are dead now.

They were killed in a robbery operation at Ajah area, but before then, a member of my gang had introduced me to Emmanuel Ehianeta, a.k.a. Arab, who is also a notorious robber. After their death I joined Arab and we began to operate together. Arab specialized in car snatching and we stole many cars at gun point. After each operation, he usually gave the car to a man who would drive it into Benin Republic to deliver to some of our buyers.

We did that for some time before we had issues. I stopped working with him because he was cheating me. He usually gave me peanuts after receiving proceeds from the cars we stole. I relocated to Ondo State and formed a new gang.

There, I had Chiboy and Okey as members and we specialized in house visiting. We robbed people of their valuables each time we visited their homes. We did that until 2011 when Chiboy was killed by the police in Ondo State. I quickly moved out of that state because the police were also looking for me. I relocated to Oyo State, where I became a commercial bus driver.

The Ikeja airport robbery gang with their box of rifles and charms
The Ikeja airport robbery gang with their box of rifles and charms
I vowed never to return to robbery and was contented with what I was making. But there was this man who usually sent me to the prison to deliver some items to his younger brother who was locked up there.

The man was paying me very well and I was happy doing the job for him. However in one of my numerous visits to the prison, I asked his brother what brought him to the prison and he said he was arrested for robbery, I felt sorry for him and told him that I was also a robber but had quit the job because it is dangerous.

He looked at me and laughed. Thereafter he described me as a small time robber. He asked if I could ignore a big job that could fetch me a million naira. I thought about it for a while and said, I would only do it if it would make me rich and pull me out of poverty. He told me to be patient adding that he would give my number to someone who would link me to the job.

In January 2012, I got a call from a man who identified himself as OJ and he explained that he got my number from Destiny, the guy I had been seeing in prison. OJ later told me that there was a job for me at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and he would want me to come to Computer Village in Lagos, to meet other members of the gang.

When I got there I met Asiwaju, Atoba, Eso and OJ. There OJ told me that they had concluded plans to strike at the airport and the only thing they needed then were rifles for the job. I told them not to worry that I knew someone who could provide us with some rifles.

I contacted one Ore, who used to be close to Arab and asked him how to get a rifle. He told me that Arab had two AK 47 rifles given to him in Benin Republic by his receivers in exchange for some cars. I called Arab. At first he was mad at me and asked why I was calling. I told him of the job at the airport that the foreign currencies were being exported unguarded and all we needed was to steal it. He doubted me but I managed to convince him to meet other members of the gang and he was taken to the airport and shown how the monies were being exported.

Felix Sunday… wasted his N90 million robbery proceeds
By February of that year I, Atoba, Eso, Arab and Asiwaju drove to the airport around 7:pm. I was the one driving. I parked near the barbed wire and waited in the car while four of them went into the airport for the money. Arab and Eso held the Ak 47 rifles while Asiwaju held a pistol.

I was told that when they got to the spot where the money was Arab shot sporadically into the air to scare passersby and Atoba went straight for the bags containing the money. In less then 10 minutes, they were through with the operation and entered my vehicle with the money while I drove off. We escaped through Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and when we got to Ijebu-Ode we entered into a bush to share the money.

Before then Arab had asked Eso and Asiwaju to hand over the pistol and rifles to him so he could keep them safe from the police. But when we began to share the money Arab corked one of the rifles and threatened to kill everyone. He said he wanted to leave with the whole money but I begged him not to do so and agreed that he should take any amount he wanted as his share.

He then asked me to bring a bag and said I should load the money into it until the bag was full and I did so. After that he ordered us to share the remaining money equally among ourselves including the informant and the middle-man that brought the job. I gave Eso, Asiwaju, Atoba and myself N90million each and kept N45million for the informant and another N45 million for OJ, who was the middle-man.

Asiwaju offered to deliver the money to the informant and the middle-man. We all went our separate ways from there. The first thing I did was to contact a lawyer to help me register a company because I wanted to sell cars. The lawyer took about N500, 000 from me and also leased a land for me for about N1.6million which I used as show room. I went to Benin Republic and bought many cars which I kept in my show room. I also bought many landed property at Ijebu-Ode.

Since I was a transporter, I decided to open a transport company, I bought three Toyota Sienna space buses and took them to Maza-MazaMotorPark, where I wanted them to be used for inter-state transportation. One of the Sienna buses had an accident on it first journey and all the passengers including the driver died in the process.

Things were moving smoothly for me until the police in Oyo State stumbled on the rifles we used for the airport operation. They found it in the home of a man Arab gave them to keep. The man told the Oyo SARS operatives that I was very close to Arab so they stormed Ijebu-Ode and they started looking for me. They didn't find it difficult locating me because my sudden wealth and business empires gave me out. They stormed my home and looted all my property and they went to my show room and took all the cars in it. I was left with no other option than to run out of the state and I relocated to Calabar, Cross River State. I lived in Calabar for about three months but life in that state was too expensive. My money was dwindling seriously and the man who was managing my transportation company stopped remitting money to me, so I decided to come to Lagos State. I went to Ikorodu, but I was very scared.

I was moving from one hotel to the other and spending too much money. A girl who was very close to me became pregnant and I decided to marry her. We didin’t even have a house of our own then and I didn’t have enough money to rent an apartment. Then I decided to sell the Toyota Corolla I was using for N1.6million and bought a Peugeot 406 for N400, 000. I used the balance to rent an apartment and furnished it. I became almost broke at that time, and then started working my phones, calling other members of my gang to ask if there was any job.

Luckily I was told that plans were on ground to rob a bank in Osun State and what they were working on was to pick a suitable date for the job. But on December 18, 2012, Asiwaju asked me to meet him at Ijebu-Ode, from where we proceeded to the bank.

My gang wasn’t the only one that was involved in that operation. Paul, an Igbo boy was also leading a gang of Igbo boys from the south east. As usual I drove my gang to the scene and we succeeded in that operation. We carted away a huge sum of money from the bank .

Since the number of men involved in that job was much, I was given just N200,000 and I took it home to my family. By January 2013, Asiwaju, called again to say there was a job in Kwara State and the operation was being coordinated by Godogodo.

We struck at two banks in that state and I got about N500,000 as my share and life began to become normal for me again. Godogodo also brought a bullion van job for us again at Ijebu-ode and we succeeded in carting away all the money in the bullion van which included foreign currencies. My share in that job was N150,000.

Godogodo and other big time robbers like Paul, Odun and others took the larger share of it. But in March 2013, Asiwaju who had three Ak47 rifles then called a meeting of all members of the gang and said we have to rob the airport again. This time we sidelined the Alhaji and OJ, and went to the MMIA ourselves to survey how the money was being moved.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, we struck at the airport, but before we got there we encountered a little traffic on our away. Two members of our gang who we had stationed earlier to monitor the movements of the money called us and said the money was already moving and by the time we arrived at the airport, the money had been moved from the car park into the departure lounge of the airport. We shot sporadically into the air to cause panic and distraction but some policemen who were at the airport to escort some expatriates shot at us and they killed Eso.

But Asiwaju, Atoba faced them, rained bullets and killed two of them. Before we knew what was happening the money had moved beyond our reach. We couldn’t do anything, we descended on the bureau de change operators at the airport and we carted away the sum of N10 million.

That operation turned out to be my last. I went home to my family but one week later I got a call from a member of our gang, a Pastor, who prepared the charms and oath we took before the operation. He said that he needed to see me for a job. I didn’t know that he was with the police and when I came out to see him, I was arrested. I regret getting back to armed robbery and would have stuck to my vows.”

Phoenix Man Dumps Wife at Hospital, Drives Off, After Weird Stuff Went Down in Bedroom

Brian Reade
A Phoenix man dropped off his wife at the hospital and drove off after what can only be described as weird stuff went down in the couple's bedroom.

Perhaps a list of the items in the couple's bedroom will give you a better idea of what was going in inside: a bloody rope, a bloody chain, bloody bolt cutters, whips, dildos, ball gags, and, according to the wife's recollection, a "demon."

According to court documents obtained by New Times, police started investigating an apparent assault victim who was being treated at the Paradise Valley Hospital on July 21.

The woman said she didn't know what had happened, but the surveillance footage in front of the emergency entrance showed the woman's husband, 48-year-old Brian Reade, drop off his wife.

The woman later told a nurse that her husband is the one who caused all these injuries to her body -- including broken bones in her face and bruises and cuts all over her body -- but later gave a slightly different explanation to police.

"The victim later stated that a demon had tied her up with chains and assaulted her," according to a police probable-cause statement.

The woman also admitted to smoking a bit of meth earlier that day.

Police note that Reade never visited his wife at the hospital but instead called police 10 hours after he dropped off his wife.

Reade told police that he thought he might be a victim and said his wife had possibly drugged him and sexually abused him, according to the documents. Police noted that Reade had no visible signs of injury.

Meanwhile, his wife told officers that it was her husband who assaulted her at their home -- more specifically, it was "not actually [her husband], but a demon that had left his body," according to the court documents.

Police served a search warrant at the couple's home, near State Route 51 and Thunderbird Road, and discovered how the woman got all her injuries.

There was a bloody rope that looked like it had been used to restrain her, while bloody bolt-cutters were apparently used to cut the woman's toes. Police also discovered a length of chain that matched some injuries on her back.

These were all in a trunk at the end of the bed, which included what police call "bondage items," in addition to whips, dildos, and ball gags. Police also noted two eyelets on the ceiling above the bed, and in the wall at the head of the bed, which are "possibly used for bondage-type situations."

By the time police arrived, the bedding had already been placed in the washing machine.

Reade was arrested, and booked into jail on two felony counts of assault with temporary disfigurement.

Timothy Millet Tells Cops He Took "Thousands" of Pictures of Women Inside Fry's Food Stores

A vendor who works inside Fry's grocery stores admitted to secretly taking "thousands" of photos of women inside the store for "sexual purposes," police say.

According to court documents obtained by New Times, 32-year-old Timothy Millet is actually an employee of Nabisco but works inside Fry's stores around the Valley.

Millet was caught after he tried to take a video under a woman's dress at the Fry's on the corner of Warner Road and Cooper Road in Gilbert, but he accidentally touched the woman's leg with his phone, according to the documents.

Millet later told police he just told the woman he was sorry and walked away.

When the woman notified store management and got police involved, Millet admitted to "taking several photographs of random female customers," the documents state.

In this case, he said, he accidentally held the phone upside-down under the woman's dress, so he took a video of her feet and the floor. He deleted the video before police arrived.

However, police say Millet "admitted that he had a sexual addiction and has taken thousands of photos and videos of random women on his cell phone."

Police discovered "hundreds" of these photos and videos on his phone, from several different Fry's locations, according to the documents.

"This is consistent with Timothy's admission of taking thousands of photos," a police probable-cause statement says. "Timothy begins recording the females while inside the store and then follows them outside into the parking lot."

Most of the photos and videos "are focused on the buttocks" of the women, according to court documents.

The woman who finally caught Millet and told police was visibly upset and crying over the incident, according to the documents.

Millet was booked into jail on two felony counts of taking unlawful surreptitious photos.

Man uses fiancee's credit card to buy one-way ticket to Hawaii, marries another woman

If you're planning to leave your fiancee to marry another woman, it's probably best not to steal her things and use her credit card for the wedding. It's just a bad move, OK? Gutsy, but also criminal.

A man
who had planned to marry a Wisconsin woman in December decided to dip out a little early, take many of her belongings, and use her to fund his one-one ticket to Hawaii to marry a Russian woman. He also used her credit card for a hotel, flowers, and other wedding expenses. It's beyond classy, really.

Raymond Jackson 41, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison for stealing an engagement ring, laptop, credit cards, luggage and money from the woman. Court records say he stole a total of $7,600 from the woman.

The 39-year-old woman told police she met Jackson in Prescott in September 2008. He eventually moved in with her, and they planned to marry Dec. 31 in Las Vegas. He said he had a job interview in South Dakota and flew out of Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

The woman then realized her laptop, cell phone, suitcase and $4,200 diamond ring were missing, and Jackson had used her credit card to buy an $800 one-way ticket to Hawaii. Reports indicate Jackson married a woman from Russia while in Hawaii and had used the Pierce County woman's credit card for a hotel, flowers, flights and other expenses.

Martin Manley, Former Kansas City Star Reporter, Posts Website Explaining His Suicide

A former Kansas City Star reporter committed suicide at 5 a.m. yesterday morning in the parking lot of the Overland Park City Police Department.
What made news of the death go from simply tragic to bizarre is the fact that Martin Manley, 60, left behind a website that chronicles his life, his views on everything from movies to 9/11, and spells out the reasons he committed suicide.
"Today is August 15, 2013. Today is my 60th birthday. Today is the last day of my life," the home page reads. "Today, I committed suicide. Today, is the first day this site is active, but it will be here for years to come."
Daily RFT called the Overland Park police to find out if the information on the site is true, and we will update if we hear back. We also called Kansas City Star editor Mike Fannin for comment; his assistant said he was not available. Here's the statement he gave to his own reporter covering the death:
"Martin was a terrific guy and a good employee," said Mike Fannin, editor and vice president of The Star. "This is a real shock, just an incredible tragedy. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family today."
The Star piece also confirms that Manley was found dead at 5 a.m. in the police station parking lot.
Manley worked for the Star for seven years and maintained the sports blog Upon Further Review for three ("3.3 years, almost 2,000 articles and at least one story every day for 653 days in a row"). He left in 2012 after the workload became "untenable" and maintained a personal sports blog thereafter.
According to the tab on Manley's site labeled "Suicide - How To," Manley planned to drive to a corner of the parking lot at the police station and shoot himself. He left a note which begins, "I committed suicide of my own free will. I am not under the influence of any drugs. I am sorry for your inconvenience!" and instructions on where to send his organs. He also says he sent letters to friends and family set to arrive the morning of his death.
There is also some confusion about a section of the website that indicates Manley may have buried his personal fortune in Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens -- he provided GPS coordinates after a passage enumerating his personal finances. According to the Star, this may have been a hoax (Manley's idea of a final practical joke?) as his family says he got rid of his stash of gold and silver coins prior to his suicide.
Here are a few excerpts from the site, which is voluminous:
On why he committed suicide:
The major reasons adults commit suicide - health, legal, financial, loss of loved ones, loneliness or depression... none of those issues are relevant to me and, for the most part of my life, have never been.
I decided I wanted to have one of the most organized good-byes in recorded history and I think I will be successful. The key has always been to do it before it becomes impossible to accomplish what I'm doing now - because then it's too late and I would simply be along for the ride to the inevitable cliff. And, that has always been an unacceptable conclusion to my life. I became convinced that had I waited even another few years, I would never have been able to produce this site.
On his work at the Star:
I survived approximately nine lay-offs at The Star because I was a workaholic. I never missed a day of work in all the years I was with the company. I rarely even took my vacation. I got 24 days a year and in the last two years, I took seven of 48 days. Company policy was not to pay for days not taken which I fully understood, so I just lost 41 days. I never took breaks, never stopped to eat during a shift, worked my butt off pretty much every minute I was there because... I just wanted to work.
Go to www.MartinManleyLifeandDeath.com to read everything Manley wanted to say before his death. Manley paid enough to keep it live for the next five years.
Update: As of Friday evening, the site is down. Yahoo told a writer for Slate, "After careful review, our team determined that this site violated our Terms of Service and we took it down." However, it is still possible to read Manley's final words on other mirror sites like this one.

What do you think? Did Yahoo do the right thing or should Manley's final wish be honored?

TB Joshua’s neighbours convert homes to hotels

Many residential buildings in Ikotun-Egbe on the Lagos mainland have been converted to hotels and inns because of the presence of the Synagogue, Church of all Nations.

Mr. Akibu Sunday, who resides at Egbe in Ikotun Egbe, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, last Saturday looked every inch a worried man. The expression on his face showed a man whose inner recesses are preoccupied with worries.

Indeed, the young upcoming musician, who our correspondent saw at a property agent’s shop, is having an accommodation problem. His landlord at Bolorunpelu Street on the Isolo-Ikotun Road, has given him a notice to vacate his house in the next six months. So, Sunday’s anxiety was not only on how to secure another accommodation for his family, but also how to raise the needed money to do so. He also has to meet his landlord’s deadline if his belongings would not be thrown out of the compound.

Securing and paying for accommodation in Lagos is no child’s play. Besides, the huge two or three years’ rent one has to pay to get a fairly good place, other sundry financial bills like the agreement and agent’s fees, among others, are part of the burden one has to bear.

The legwork, as it were, is another task any potential accommodation seeker has to face. Indeed, anybody looking for an accommodation has to register with agents, which, of course, requires monetary involvement (perhaps between N2,000 and N5,000) in as many shops as possible, although that does not suggest an automatic access to the apartment of one’s choice.

These and many other psychological issues were occupying Sunday's mind last Saturday.

Like Sunday, many other residents of Egbe and its environs are facing a similar experience. Small-scale business owners too are not left out of what a resident of the area described as the “mad rush for the occupation” of the territory.

Property owners in the area are no longer interested in giving out their apartments to families for a long period of years. In the new thinking, there is now a fresher approach to recouping the money they have spent on the buildings.

Not only that, many house owners prefer to relocate to other parts of the city and let out their houses as chalets.

One of them, Mr. Gabriel Omatade, who relocated to Gemade Estate in Egbeda, said he had two houses now turned to hotels in the area.

According to him, it makes more economic sense for him to live in a rented apartment elsewhere because he makes more money from the houses converted to hotels.

Another house owner who pleaded anonymity, gave the same reason for moving out of the area.

He said he makes more than double the money he could have made if his house had been solely occupied by tenants.

“The easiest way to make more money from your apartment is to turn them to chalets. There are enough visitors here everyday to stay in them,” he added.

Little wonder, the Egbe-Ikotun area of Lagos, the once residential area, is of late beginning to attract a lot of attention and increasingly becoming a business hub, courtesy of the presence of Synagogue Church of All Nations.

Following the large number of people coming to worship or seek one religious favour or another in the church, the tempo and standard of life in the area have moved upward.

The many hotels, lodgings, business shops and transport companies springing up around the locality are pointers to the pace of development in the area.

In fact, saying that there is no street in that neighbourhood without at least three hotels or lodgings would not be far from the truth.

The area has also become a hotbed of activities for some young employment seekers recruited to solicit customers and clients for the growing business outfits in the vicinity. These young individuals, our correspondent gathered, are paid commissions for every new client they attract to a hotel or any of the hurriedly organised lodging places.

In fact, just as soon as our correspondent got to Segun Irefin Street, where the church is located, a commercial motorcycle operator quickly offered to take her to where she could get a ‘decent’ accommodation.

The okada rider, who later gave his name as Simon, informed our correspondent that he is usually and adequately compensated by the hotel management depending on the number of guests he brings in.

“Each time I take a guest to any of the hotels, I write my name and the number of guests I bring. At the end of the day or month, I am compensated. Some hotels can give me a bag of rice at the end of the year. Others can give me commission based on what the guests pay,” he said.

Simon, who said he had been doing the business for more than three years, noted that he had even moved up to buy a car, which he also uses for the business.

“It depends on the guests. Some of them, I use my car to take them to the airport or the park. I have so many customers. All they need to do is to call me when they are coming to the church and I will go and pick them up. We are so many in the business. You can see all the young guys hanging around here, we are all agents and this is what we do. The more guests you are able to take to any hotel or lodging, the more you are compensated,” he said.

Indeed, the ‘agents’ are not just young boys and okada riders, female recharge card sellers readily take guests where they could pay as low as N500 a night.

On Unity Street, off Liasu Road, is a hotel where each room can have as many as 12 double-bunk beds.

Gloria, a recharge card seller, who took our correspondent to the hotel, said a bed space is N1,000 per night and those who could sleep on the mat would need to pay N500 for a night.

“You know that some people come with very sick people. Those ones might not need to sleep on the bed. They would only need just a space to put their heads. That is why we have mats for such people,” she said.

A resident, who also pleaded anonymity, noted that his landlord on Unity Street, last year jerked up his three-bedroom accommodation rent from N130,000 to N250,000. The landlord, he added, even threatened to turn the living home to a lodging if any tenant contested the rent.

Apart from apartments, owners of business shops, whose economic fortunes are nose-diving, are now converting their premises to mini lodging places. Examples abound;

On Opeloyeru Street, also adjacent to the church, two emergency pilgrims’ hostels have sprung up in the last few months. The Isolo-Ikotun Road end close to the church has also started witnessing a beehive of activities. For instance, a hotel, Victoria Continental, has opened within the neighbourhood in the last couple of months.

No matter how indecent some of these lodgings are, guests still troop to them, not minding the terrible state.

A visitor to the church, Edith Iro, who informed our correspondent she is based in Cameroun, said she had relatives in Lagos, who she could have stayed with but she preferred staying in a lodging.

“By 3 am, everywhere is already filled up. There is no space in the church. So, I would rather stay in a nearby area in order to get a seat. These places are terrible. I came with my younger sisters and we stayed with eight other strangers in a room where we paid N800 a night for the three nights we stayed here,” she said.

The Manager of Decent Accommodation, a property agent at Ile-Iwe Bus Stop, Alhaji Femi Taofeek, also attested to the increased patronage in the area. He stated that the cost of renting shops and accommodation has increased tremendously.

“Rent for any property within this area has skyrocketed. The concentration of people doing the hotel business is between Ile-Iwe, Ita Alhaji,  Bolorunpeluand Synagogue Bus Stops. People now engage in accommodation business. So many new buildings are coming up. We now have new structures which are all for lodging and mini hotels,” he said.

“In fact, some people rent the flats and turn them to mini chalets and most times, the landlords don’t even get to know about it. Some landlords who found out that their tenants turned their flats to lodgings have given them notices to quit. It is not proper for anybody to turn a residential flat into a lodging. Some of the guests are sick people with one ailment or the other.”

Taofeek stated that landlords were also
driving out their tenants and turning their property to lodgings.

“A landlord can wake up one morning and tell his tenants that he wants to turn his property to a hotel, thereby giving them notices to quit. This is what has been happening in this area for some years now. Most of the hotels are not even registered. It is not proper. It is high time the government looked into this,” he said.

In another instance, Desmond Ojeh, another property agent, said shops, which used to cost between N700 and N1,500 now cost between N2,500 and N7,000 per month. Securing a plot of land in the neighbourhood now, he added, cost between N7m and N12m.

Besides issues of accommodation, food vendors are equally making brisk businesses in the area. Because many of these emergency hospitality outfits do not provide or sell food, petty food vendors have now cashed in on the situation to flourish in their own enterprises.

Also Keke Marwa (tricycle operators) and banned motorcyclists (okada riders) are into “big” business as they move visitors and passengers from the church to many of these lodging spots.

“Since the government banned our business, we have come to this area and I must tell you that it has not been bad; people always troop to this place looking for accommodation. Since they are mostly strangers, we take them to the places we know they would be accommodated depending on their pockets,” an Okada rider told our correspondent.

Even the mobile Hausa currency exchange dealers have hurriedly found a place in the neighbourhood. One of them, who identified himself as Alhaji Kabiru, told our correspondent that they are patronized largely by visitors, who troop to the church.

“We get to change different kinds of currencies for them. Most people that patronise us are not Nigerians. They are people from other countries who come to the church. We were not here before, it was because of the presence of the church that we came here,” he said.

Charity Thieves Return Loot In Change Of Heart

Thieves who stole computers and valuables from a charity for victims of sexual violence have had a change of heart and returned the goods.

They broke into the offices of the Sexual Assault Services Centre  in San Bernadino County, California one evening after immobilising the burglar alarm and crawling on the floor to evade motion detectors.

When centre director Candy Stallings arrived after being contacted by police she discovered the office had been ransacked and computer equipment was missing.

"Our office is really secure," she told CBS Los Angeles. "We have the best locks but they still managed to find a way in."

However later that day police called her to say the thieves had returned all of the stolen items.

Guilty thief returns goods
Ms Stallings' message of thanks to the thief
"All my stuff was in front of the door," she said. "There was a shopping cart, and there were the PCs that were taken and the laptop; everything was there."

When she opened the laptop, she discovered a hand written note, apologising for stealing the equipment.

"We had no idea what we were takeing (sic)," it read. "Here your (sic) stuff back. We hope that you guys can continue to make a difference in peoples (sic) live. God bless."

"We were all pretty shocked," said Ms Stallings. "You've got to be kidding me. I was in disbelief. I got chills. I got very emotional."

"This is the first time in my career I have seen the return of stolen items," San Bernardino Police Lt Paul Williams said.

"It appears the guilt of taking the property caused the return of the items."
